The overall objective of the Baseline Survey was to provide baseline data and information to enable the main stakeholders in Winterveldt community to:
Establish indicators for the various interventions aimed at improving conditions of the Winterveldt community.
Specific objectives and scope of the Baseline Survey were grouped into two main categories. First, those that focused on capacity building and second, those that related directly to the collection of required baseline data:
Capacity Building
Introduce participants including AMREF Training of Facilitators Course participants to the concept of Participatory Action Research (PAR).
To equip participants with knowledge and skills on Participatory Action Research.
To involve participants in actual data collection; compilation, analysis and interpretation and report writing.
Baseline Survey
To assess the health and welfare conditions of the sampled population
Scope
Physical and mental disabilities.
Major health and welfare problems
Health and welfare problems facing the disabled, the youth, women, the aged and children under fives.
Mortality
To assess the level of utilization of Health and Welfare Services
Scope
To assess communities level of knowledge and behaviour related to transmission and pre prevention of HIV/AIDS
Scope
To assess the Health and Welfare Information Requirements of the sampled population
Scope
To assess Community's Knowledge of Educational Training Services within Winterveldt
Scope
Awareness of existence of educational training services within Winterveldt
Perception of usefulness of existing educational services within Winterveldt
Perception of what else need to be addressed by the existing educational training services.
