The SHARP Programme (Sensible, Healthy and Responsible People)

Government Validation and Commitment

Without the support and intercession of local, provincial, and national government, the project cannot achieve ultimate effect.

Informal approaches have been made to various government officials, departments and office bearers, who have indicated their support and endorsed the programme.  This proposal constitutes a formal request to government apply an innovative solution to an urgent problem on a substantial scale.

Comment on the draft policy on HIV/AIDS in schools and tertiary educational institutions, to align policy with these proposals, was submitted in 1999 on behalf of the Community Heath Development Coalition, an loose association of NGOs working on HIV/AIDS in North West Province.

The North West Health Department’s Aids Awareness Fund for NGOs have supported and will very likely continue to support peer sex-educators in Mabopane Education District. and the Odi District Heath System. Local authorities and provincial government are in favour of upliftment programmes. The St Peter’s Mandlenkosi Family Health Company has been long supported by Odi District Health System and can test and perhaps even substantially implement twinning of clinics and schools and  the school health team concept this year.
