The SHARP Programme (Sensible, Healthy and Responsible People)


Aims

·          To recruit, train, support, administer, monitor and evaluate community youth, each stationed full time at a secondary school as a sexuality educator, under the mentorship of the school guidance counsellor, managed by SAPLER field managers in consultation with education district master trainers.

·          To promote responsible teenage sexuality for learners by developing individuals’ self respect, trust in others, knowledge and good judgement.

·          To drastically reduce the incidence of sexually transmitted disease, teenage pregnancy, sexual abuse and coercion through the promotion of sexual abstinence, safer sex practices and community cohesion in partnership with clinics and other referral agencies.

·          To accumulate knowledge systematically, develop strategies to meet local needs and summarise and communicate relevant information to all stakeholders.
