WB00825_11.GIF (134 bytes) Going to the clinic

One or two learners specifically mentioned being advised to go to the clinic to prevent pregnancy (e.g. c16g "My pioneer tell me that I must go to the clinic to prevent pregnant"), but for the most part this is not a link that seems to have been very forcefully made.

Learners did not present pioneers as referring them to other helping agencies such as clinics, and it may be that pioneers are not adequately trained in referral skills. One learner described herself as being in the kind of situation where a pioneer with good referral skills may be able to help her:

m38g     "I have fear and guilt for not willing to go for STD check-up. Where does one go to get help except family, church, clinic, Hospital aren’t the Youth Groups who share somewhere this thing"

Recommendation

Pioneers should receive training in referral skills and be encouraged to work actively on setting up and maintaining their own referral network.
