Of the 229 learners who completed or partially completed the section of the questionnaire dealing with perceptions of Sapler pioneers, 162 (71%) could recall the pioneer’s name - a reasonably high percentage given that in some cases pioneers had last been active in a school more than a year previously. 

However, there was considerable variation among schools, and in some schools a sizeable proportion of learners did not know the pioneer’s name even though the pioneer was currently present in the school. The issue of pioneers’ access to learners is discussed in more detail in section 3 of this report.

One hundred and forty (61%) learners recalled seeing the pioneer once a week, 36 (16%) once every two weeks, and 53 (23%) less frequently than that.
